ABOUT THE CREATION QUARTET
Praised by audiences for their “spellbinding performances,” the Creation Quartet is an emerging string quartet bringing a youthful and vibrant energy to the stage. Founded by four international friends and colleagues during their studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, the quartet trained intensively under the guidance of Rivka Golani and Leon Bosch, and appeared in masterclasses with the Piatti Quartet and Linos Trio.
Since the quartet’s inaugural concert in December 2021, their momentum has taken them across the UK on exciting collaborations with prominent musicians and composers such as Nathen Durasamy, Andrew Bernardi and Malcolm Singer. They also enjoy regularly providing light entertainment and background music at weddings, private parties and events for a range of clients including the Royal Academy of Arts and the Duke of Norfolk at Arundel Castle.
Alongside their performance projects, the quartet has branched out into music education, appearing as guest tutors at the Bernardi Music Group String Academy. The quartet’s name pays tribute to the founding father of the string quartet genre; Franz Joseph Haydn, composer of the well-known work “The Creation”.
Samuel Cutajar
Samuel Cutajar started the violin at the age of 6 under the tutelage of Antoine Frendo, with whom he obtained his Licentiate of Trinity College London.
Samuel studied with Profs. Clare Thompson at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and is a current masters student at the Royal Academy of Music studying with Philippe Honoré. He was awarded an internship with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017 and has been a member of the Malta Youth Orchestra for the past 8 years. He has been a member of the European Union Youth Orchestra since 2020.
Samuel has given various solo and chamber recitals in Malta and the UK, regularly appearing alongside his clarinetist brother Michael Cutajar, and in 2022 he gave his debut soloist performance with the Uzbekistan National Symphony Orchestra. He also participated in various masterclasses with renowned musicians including Tasmin Little, Werner Hink, Nicolas Dautricourt, Carmine Lauri, Yuri Zhislin, Michael Vaiman, Mauro Tortorelli, and Kati Sebestyén. He recently won the Vera Kantrovich Bach Competition and has achieved special mention in various other competitions held in London.
Joy Peter
Meet Joy Peter, a violist from India, studying a Masters Degree in Viola Performance with Professor Rivka Golani at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London. Growing up in Bangalore, worship music at church inspired her studies of western classical music. Joy also studied Carnatic music as a SaPa Scholar, the piano as a BSM Scholar and violin as an Asawari Scholar. At Trinity Laban, Joy has been awarded further scholarships from Trinity College, Gladys Bratton, GREAT India and The Sama Family, most recently becoming an Udmi Devi Scholar. Joy was a soloist with the India National Youth Orchestra, and enjoyed many chamber music festivals across India. She performed with the Vienna Youth Orchestra and Chorus at the Musikverein in Vienna, and has been part of concerts at London venues including Wigmore Hall and The Southbank Centre. Passionate about music education, she currently conducts virtual music workshops for students in India and teaches at music schools in London.
Gregory Scotland
Meet Gregory, the second violinist of the Creation Quartet and a keen chamber and orchestral musician. Gregory studied violin performance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire with John Crawford and Lana Trotovsek and was awarded the Len Smith and Felicity Young Scholarship during his studies there. During his time in London he has performed and trained in a variety of chamber ensembles through which he has received coaching from Michael Bochmann, Rivka Golani, David Kennedy and Douglas Finch, as well as members of the Carducci, Piatti, and Smith quartets. Gregory has also performed across the world as an orchestral musician, including as a member of the San Diego International Youth Orchestra in 2018 and 2019. Alongside his classical training, Gregory is also an enthusiastic folk violinist with experience in music from Ireland, Scotland, Scandinavia and Romania, regularly performing in traditional Irish folk sessions and with his folk trio "Abhainn".
Georgina Viu
Georgina Viu is a cellist from Barcelona. She started playing the cello and the piano at the age of six, and pursued her studies at Josep Maria Ruera's Conservatory in Granollers, Barcelona, where she graduated in 2018. She is currently studying a Masters Degree in Music Performance with Professor Derek Aviss OBE at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London. Georgina has participated in various masterclasses with renowned musicians including František Brikcius, Lluís Claret, Matthias Dulack, Rivka Golani, and Michael Bochmann. She has been also a member of the Young Symphony Orchestra of Barcelona from 2016 until 2021, where she has performed under the baton of renowned conductors such as Josep Caballé Domenech, Michael Thomas, Joshua Dos Santos, Manuel Hernández Silva, Carlos Checa, Salvador Brotons, and Íñigo Pirfano. She has been part of concerts at Barcelona and London venues including Palau de la Música, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Wigmore Hall and The Hexagon. Passionate about music education, she currently teaches the cello and the piano privately at music schools in London.
